Building History:
North Kutch Properties is a special place to conduct your business. With limited commercial space available in Carlton, our property is a “home” to businesses, surrounded by history and offering a unique experience to guests. North Kutch Properties offers 3 separate leased tasting rooms, a winery, and outdoor leased event center garden space making it a destination location for fun in Carlton!

In 1913, the property was established on the corner of North Kutch and Monroe Streets in Carlton, Oregon. What began as only a barn, the space was transformed into a thriving machine shop during WWII by the hard work and ingenuity of the Loban family. When the war ended, Mr. Loban drove his big truck through town, loaded with school-aged children, ringing a large black liberty bell!

The current owner, Steve Taylor, acquired North Kutch in the 1980’s. He and his wife Janell lovingly remodeled the property. They were careful to preserve historic features such as the old wood smokestack on the outside of the building and other treasures inside. After completion, Taylor relocated his growing business - American Packaging Inc. - from the Beaverton/Aloha area near Portland, Oregon to their newly updated facility in rural Carlton.

The Willamette Valley wine explosion in 2005, which coincided with the sale of American Packaging Inc. in 2007, prompted the owners to convert the main manufacturing facility and warehouse to meet the needs of winemakers. They added winery specific production capability, temperature-controlled storage and warehouse space. The adjoining areas of the facility (the Loban's former home and office) were converted into three unique tasting rooms. Respecting the historical significance of the space included preserving original features in Suite “C” such as hand-formed bricks with the handprints of the Loban daughters.

In addition to all the indoor spaces, North Kutch also offers 3,500 square feet of outdoor space, including local favorite The Carlton Courtyard and well-positioned paved patio spaces,

North Kutch Properties offers a complete destination guest experience in a unique gathering space. With a focus on Carlton’s history and preserving one important story, the Taylors have restored, retained and remodeled spaces to give your business a presence that can add to the good life found in “The Great Little Town” of Carlton, Oregon.
