The vines were planted in 2001 in Gold Ridge sandy loam. It's located in a cooler coastal site of a south facing valley tucked in the Sebastopol Hills. Short windows of mid-day heat and afternoon breezes lead to cooler nights and allows for long, slow ripening. The vineyard tends to low yield and tiny "grenade" clusters with intense, complex flavors and pronounced acidity. The fruit is harvested by hand at night.
