In collaboration with winemaking team, run all day-to-day winemaking operations, interface directly with clients to set expectations for harvest as well as daily execution of winemaking protocols, lead and train winemaking/cellar team, ensure readiness, cleanliness and sanitation of facilities, develop and refine SOP’s, protocols, and software to ensure best in class service is provided to clients.
Responsibilities
• In collaboration with Winemaker, leads winemaking and cellar functions, including taking an active role in facilities management as needed to ensure smooth operation of winery process wastewater systems, cooling, etc.
• Hire, train, and develop staff as needed, including seasonal workers. Direct supervision of cellar staff and Cellar Master.
• Set expectations, track performance, and maintain a positive team culture
• Coordinate schedules, workflows, and ensure compliance with company policies
• In collaboration with Winemaker, oversee all winemaking processes including fermentation, blending, bottling, barrel work and storage
• Manage production tonnage targets
• Implement procedures, monitor quality, and supervise cellar, lab, harvest, and bottling activities
• Handle tank planning, wine logistics, and data tracking
• Review and approve contracts, purchase orders, and custom crush agreements
• Lead production for client brands, manage client expectations, and support contract negotiations
• Ensure the highest levels of sanitation, organization and cleanliness are met. Sets the example for the team and ensures team accountability.
• Leads winery safety program and ensures staff compliance with the highest levels of safety standards
• Participate in winery expansion planning as needed
• Ensure winery facilities and equipment are ready for production and client operations
Required Qualifications
• 5–10+ years of relevant experience managing winemaking, cellar, or production operations
• Experience at a winery producing 500–1,000+ tons
• Proven management experience with multiple team members
• High school diploma required, degree in viticulture, enology, or related field preferred but not required
• Proficiency with wine production software for tracking grapes, barrels, and inventory, MS Office suite, etc.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills and can-do attitude
• Ability to manage multiple teams and projects while maintaining high-quality standards
• Wine industry experience required
