2024 Laboratory Intern at Echolands Winery

Echolands Winery

Walla Walla, WA

Job Description:

Echolands Winery is a Walla Walla-dedicated winery, producing wines of nuance, balance, and elegance. With reverence for classic styles, and with an equal passion for evolving winemaking, Echolands aims to create new paradigms and test the possibilities of the Walla Walla Valley AVA. We embrace regenerative farming for our two estate vineyards, and source grapes from leading established vineyards, in our sustainable pursuit to craft beautiful and age-worthy wines.

As we prepare for the first harvest in our new facility in the Mill Creek district, we are seeking a focused and highly motivated laboratory intern to support laboratory and cellar operations during harvest. The laboratory intern will assist our enologist, Jeff Beegle, in the wine laboratory. This will include grape and wine sampling, data creation & management, and the implementation of additions/treatments in the cellar. The intern will also assist in cellar tasks during harvest.

The principal duties include:
•  Maintain an efficient and clean wine laboratory for world-class wine production.
•  Assist with grape and wine sampling during harvest.
•  Follow Standard Operating Procedures to perform lab oratory analyses.
•  Assist with wine inoculations and additions.
•  Assist with cellar work as a secondary duty.
•  Ensure work order accuracy and timely data entry after completion.
•  Search for and execute for continuous improvement opportunities.
•  Contribute to making Echolands an incredible place to work, through your good attitude and spirit of collaboration.

Requirements and Qualifications:
Education/Experience: Completed or pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a science-related field. We gladly welcome candidates with associate degrees in enology/viticulture or similar relatable field. Understanding wine production and timelines and laboratory experience is a plus.

Professional Skills: Excellent communication skills with attention to detail for writing and verbal instructions. Possess fluency and skill with key software: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc).

Technical skills: Proficiency with key wine laboratory instruments and analyses, with ability to grow with emerging technology.

Physical Demands: Must be at least 21 years of age and in good physical shape to handle the rigors of wine work: long days during harvest, lifting up to 40lbs, reaching, stooping, standing on concrete, assisting with cellar work (as needed), and otherwise being a rock-solid member of the winemaking team.

Your Compensation & Benefits
- Pay $20 per hour, pay periods every other week
- Overtime pay during peak weeks
- Exposure to world-class winemaking concepts
- Be part of a great winemaking team
- Great snacks

Full-time availability from late August/early September through November is required. Job Duration is dependent on the vintage. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US.
