2024 Harvest Cellar Hand

Alexana Estate Vineyards & Winery

Newberg, OR

Job Description:

Alexana Estate Vineyards and Winery is seeking harvest cellar hands to join our close-knit winemaking team for the 2024 harvest. This is a seasonal position that will start in late August and last approx. 10 weeks, wrapping in early November. Ideal candidates will be positive, energetic, dependable and passionate about making great wines, while also motivated to work alongside, collaborate with, and learn from people of diverse backgrounds and experiences. While harvest experience is preferred, we encourage those new to winemaking to apply. We ask a lot of our team but provide a well-rounded enological education in return.

Sheep, pigs and cows oh my! In addition to winery work, harvest cellar hands will become well acquainted with our estate vineyards by sampling and spending time with our resident furry friends. Throughout the harvest season, we will engage with the local winemaking community here in the Willamette Valley arranging get-togethers with other winemaking teams / harvest crews. We will also plan visits to different wineries to tour and taste, giving the team a chance to see facilities and winemaking processes that differ from our own.

We value taking the time every day to enjoy a meal together, provided by our harvest chef. This is also our opportunity to taste new and unique wines as a team!

Background on Alexana:
Alexana produces 16,000 cases of small-lot Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling at our estate winery and vineyards in the Dundee Hills. The highly acclaimed winery features state of the art processing and analytical equipment allowing interns to learn the techniques crucial to making world-class wine. Fruit is predominantly from our Dundee Hills estate vineyards with additional sourcing from quality vineyard sites across the Willamette Valley.

Duties:
Job duties will include grape receiving, sorting, pressing, racking, juice/must additions, inoculations, punchdowns and pumpovers, barrel prep/filling, winery sanitation, lab work, vineyard sampling, bottling, tasting/sensory and other general winery operations. Forklift training will be provided prior to harvest. Candidates must be flexible to work varying shifts, overtime, weekends, and must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. repeatedly.

We’re dedicated to hiring diverse talent and ensuring that we treat you with respect and support throughout the interview process and once you join the Alexana team. We strive to create conditions that provide everyone with an equal opportunity to thrive.

Qualified candidates are requested to submit a cover letter, resume and a little anecdote about the best (or most interesting!) wine they’ve tried in the past year. We look forward to welcoming you to our 2024 harvest family!
