Job Description:
Unsworth Vineyards is seeking a full-time, permanent Cellar Hand to join our wine production team. Unsworth Vineyards is a producer of premium, cool-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Sparkling wines in the burgeoning and idyllic region of the Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island. Unsworth Vineyards is a growing company with recently planted vineyards and future winery expansion in the near term. The successful candidate will:
• Have a passion for cool climate wines, especially the above mentioned varieties/styles
• Have a minimum 3 cellar-based vintages OR 1 full year in the cellar at a single winery
• Be mechanically-minded and takes pride in the hands-on aspect of winemaking
• Have expert forklift skills
• Have great attention to detail
• Work well independently or with a team
• Be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks
• Have good time management and prioritization skills
• Capable of using winery software (Vintrace)
• Be legally allowed to work in Canada
• Be available to work long hours, evenings or weekends during peak seasons
• Have a “can do” attitude, honest, reliable and hard-working
Assets may include:
• BSc., diploma or certificate in winemaking or related science field
• Experience with Charmat winemaking
• Trade skills: plumbing, mechanical, refrigeration, etc.
• Laboratory skills
Compensation:
• $22-$25 / hour
• Extended benefits after 6 months
• RRSP matching after 2 years
Hiring Timeline:
• Application Deadline: April 19th
• Interviews through until April 30th
• Preferred start date: May 6th (negotiable)
