Rutherford Ranch Winery is looking for a Winemaking intern to assist with our 2024 harvest. This internship will provide extensive experience in the laboratory and the cellar, as well as an opportunity to gain exposure to premium Bordeaux variety vineyards around the Napa Valley. We are looking for an individual who will contribute to our fast-paced, dynamic environment. We produce a wide range of wines and are committed to excellence in all that we do. SUMMARY:

Our intern will play a critical role in monitoring fermentations, performing lab analysis, assessing vineyard maturity, and providing accurate and timely data to support the production of our wines. As well as working closely with our small winemaking team, this internship involves significant independent work and is geared toward preparing individuals for future careers in the wine industry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Laboratory/Winemaking (80%):
•  Tank and barrel sampling
•  Daily fermentation monitoring
•  Grape, juice, and wine analysis (Berry weights, Brix, pH, TA, sulfur, enzymatics, FOSS, etc.)
•  Accurate data entry using Microsoft Excel
•  Assist in preparing trials, blends, and tastings
•  Potential for vineyard sampling

Cellar (20%):
•  Additions, re-hydrations and inoculations
•  Cap management (pumpovers, punchdowns)
•  Barrel downs, racking, topping
•  General sanitation

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
•  AA or Bachelor’s degree in enology/viticulture achieved or in progress preferred
•  Valid Driver’s License and personal transportation required
•  One or more previous harvests experience preferred
•  Strong written and verbal communication skills
•  Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
•  Analytical skills, critical thinking, math skills required
•  Enjoy working in a team environment as well as individually
•  Conversational Spanish is a plus
•  Willingness and ability to follow all Company Safety policies and procedures
•  Must be able to work a flexible schedule with overtime (including one weekend day/week) during peak harvest period.
•  Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 45 lbs
