McKinley Springs Winery is looking for a cellar master to run a small cellar crew during the year as well as a crew of interns during the harvest season. This will be a hands-on position that requires physical work as well as the ability to supervise and manage a crew. We produce both small lot and large lot wines so attention to detail is a must. This job will report directly to the winemaker. Annual production ~80,000 cases. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of cellar experience.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Supervising cellar workers and managing work flow
- Communicating effectively with the winemaker
- Performing and directing cellar crew to perform all standard production jobs from receiving and processing grapes, racking / blending, additions, barrel work and filtration
- Implementing and completing work orders
- Forklift operation
- Equipment maintenance, including bottling line
- Following safety protocols
The ideal candidate would possess the following:
- 5+ years of cellar experience
- Previous supervisor experience
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to follow written instructions
- Ability to work as a team or individually depending on the day
- Be reliable and punctual
- Have an interest in wine
- Good mechanical skills
- Ability to problem solve
- Ability to think clearly in a sometimes hectic environment
- Ability to be flexible with plans
- Willingness to work extended hours
- Attention to detail
- Passion for quality
- Strong communication skills; competency in Spanish a plus
