The Vit Field Scout is an integral member of the Viticulture team. Responsibilities include weekly pest, disease and weed monitoring; periodic soil and tissue sampling; and data compilation and reporting. This position is responsible for collecting, compiling, and analyzing vineyard data. The Vit Field Scout will provide support for the Viticulture team with nutrition and irrigation decisions. This position includes a company vehicle, company smart phone, iPad and laptop.

Basic Job Responsibilities
•  Maintain an awareness of vine pests, diseases, disorders, fertility and moisture status of vines and report findings in the software program, as well as communicate observations to Director of Viticulture, Viticulturist and Area Manager.
•  Responsible for collecting and managing vineyard data and statistics, including but not limited to soil samples, plant tissue samples, pruning weights, sugar samples, petiole analysis, etc.
•  Attend and participate in team meetings, training sessions, and educational meetings.

Knowledge of:
•  Vineyard diseases and pests
•  An understanding of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
•  General viticulture
•  Pesticides and other farming chemicals and their use
•  Industry safety practices

•  Bi-lingual English/Spanish helpful but not required

Physical Demands
•  Adhere to Company PPE (personal protective equipment) policies
•  Frequently works outdoors in extremes of heat/humidity/cold and other weather conditions
•  Exposed to dust, noise, pesticides, gasoline and diesel fuel
•  Ability to walk on uneven ground
•  Ability to see clearly enough to a) drive safely b) distinguish vineyard pests and grape varieties c) recognize employees Ability to work nights
•  Ability to work long hours when required
•  Ability to drive
•  Ability to drive an ATV
•  Ability to use scientific instruments and electronic devices

Licenses and Certifications
•  Valid California Class C drivers license

Experience and Education
•  BS in Viticulture or related field. Related coursework and/or experience will also be considered.
