The Tasting Room Manager will be highly skilled at sales and guest service, and balancing the delivery of a gracious experience for all guests with effective sales techniques. As a seasoned people manager, the Tasting Room Manager will provide training, mentoring, and incentives to the Tasting Room staff to ensure a high standard of service and meeting annual sales goals
Reporting to the General Manager, the Tasting Room Manager is responsible for managing the staff and day-to-day operations of the consumer and trade guest experience, winery retail sales and merchandising, the development and growth of a cross-brand wine club. The Tasting Room Manager will work with the Director of Tasting Rooms and Senior Management to ensure that the overall lifetime value of consumers and trade customers is maximized.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Tasting Room Management:
•Ensure that consumers, trade and VIP guests have an exceptional and delightful experience at the VWE tasting room. Utilize the results of periodic guest surveys to measure and improve the education, experience, facility, wine offerings and story presented to guests. Develop specific protocols and guidelines pertaining to the day-to-day operation of the tasting room. Ensure tasting room staff understands and executes tasting room philosophy.
Retail Sales Management
•Achieve annual revenue goals and provide periodic reporting to management and staff on status. Revenue will be generated from a combination of retail sales at the winery, telephone and e-commerce orders. Ensure membership sales goals are met for the VWE wine club. Manage day to day financial duties of the winery retail sales, including banking and communication with accounting. Provide support and recommendations to grow the VWE direct to consumer business.
•Identify, hire and train staff to deliver an exceptional guest experience and meet sales targets. Develop annual goals for employees and provide annual performance reviews. Foster high motivation and enthusiasm by developing and implementing effective staff incentives. Mentor staff and provide an exemplary model of interaction with VWE guests.
•Work in conjunction with General Manager to ensure that community gatekeepers such as winery, hotel and restaurant staff keep VWE “top of mind” when referring their guests; supervise regular schedule of gatekeeper relationship building visits for tasting room staff.
Planning and Collaboration:
•In collaboration with management, direct marketing, winemaking and ownership, guide planning and implementation of the on-site consumer direct strategy for VWE, as well as management of incentive/commission programs for tasting room staff
• Manage all vendors, software and tools related to tasting room sales, special events, management and reporting.
•3+ years experience with tasting room management
•Passion for fine wines
•Excellent people management, organizational and customer service skills
•Experience with developing and managing budgets
•Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
•Must be capable of working independently, and of managing multiple tasks at once
•Must be able to lift and move 45 lbs.
