Job Summary: The Seasonal Viticulture Intern will assist the viticulture team, grower relations and winery staff with harvest-related activities.

The anticipated timeframe of this internship is May – November. As a Viticulture Harvest Intern, some of the responsibilities for this role include: Crop estimation, maturity sampling, soil analysis, water status monitoring, pest and disease scouting, as well as data analysis. Optional:

If the Intern is interested in gaining winery experience, there is a potential opportunity to extend the internship (mid-October through November) and would be working at one of our Sonoma County wineries in the cellar, assisting with all aspects of grape receiving, fermentation management and harvest winery duties. This is an exciting viticulture position with potential for a cross functional role to include broad harvest exposure and experience while working collaboratively in a team environment.

Initially, this position will start the day at our Geyserville or Sonoma office, depending on where the intern lives. In addition to the $500 sign-on bonus paid at the end of your internship, we also provide some meals!

Roles and Responsibilities:
Vineyards
•  Visiting and monitoring vineyards for vine & grape maturity
•  Vineyard scouting for powdery mildew, mold, pests & disease
•  Maintaining and updating vineyard evaluation binder with Maps, Vineyard contacts & pictures
•  Sampling grapes in vineyards for maturity & ripeness
•  Analysis of grapes for maturity controls
•  Data entry and reporting of laboratory analysis
•  Collect grape samples from a large variety of vineyards in Sonoma County. To a lesser extent, Napa and Sacramento Counties.

Potential Winery Tasks
•  Clean, sanitize, and sterilize all winery equipment and facilities.
•  Fermentation: operate Punch Downs, Pump Overs
•  Rack and pump grape juice and wine; moving hoses and equipment
•  Addition of chemicals to juice & wine

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
•  Ability to read maps, and basic geographical knowledge
•  Physical Requirements: ability to reach with hands and arms, sit, walk, climb, stoop and kneel, and be able to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds
•  Ability to walk on uneven terrain and exposure to the elements
•  Ability to work flexible hours and work the entire harvest season
•  Ability to do basic math and have good verbal and written English communication skills.
•  Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules and procedures, cellar work orders, count barrels, record times and dates
•  Participate in safety training programs to ensure personal and team members’ safety

Experience and Qualifications:
•  A valid Driver's License and acceptable DMV record to be considered insurable.
•  Previous vineyard grape sampling or winery harvest experience preferred but not required
•  Maintain reliable, punctual, organized behaviors and possess a strong work ethic.
