Yamhill Valley Vineyards is a family owned and operated 100-acre vineyard located in McMinnville, Oregon. We grow, produce and bottle all of our wine off of our beautiful estate that began being planted back in 1983. We are winegrowers and lead our fruit through out onsite winery with attention to detail, inquisitive minds, and a gentle hand. We produce primarily Pinot Noir, but also produce Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling and Rosé of Pinot Noir. We have a small tight knit full time staff that work independently and together and often wear multiple hats.

Position: Part Time, Cellar Hand, Yamhill Valley Vineyards

Position Description: Cellar Hand of Yamhill Valley Vineyards will manage all cellar and laboratory tasks and assist with safety and compliance related tasks for the winery. We will train the right candidate that satisfies the traits listed above.

Cellar:
Responsible for cellar related duties, including:
•  Provide accurate counts of barrel inventory to GM and Winemaker.
•  Inventory health management: Monitor SO2 additions, completion of ML, topping, cellar cleanliness.
•  Check tank temperatures regularly, and keep a record on winemaker database.
•  Wine movements: Perform racking, sanitation, wine transfers, bulk wine shipping, and grape handling.
•  Assist in training harvest interns.
•  Assist with blending, preparing trials, pulling samples, and sensory evaluation of wines.
•  Bottling Operations: Be able to cover management of mobile bottling line, wine preparation prior to bottling, packaging materials inventory.
•  Repair and maintenance of winery equipment.
•  Contributes to the continuous improvement of the winemaking process and procedures.

Laboratory:
•  Perform routine wine analysis on monthly basis.
•  Maintain laboratory equipment, reagents, and validation of results with outside laboratory.
•  Enter results into winemaker database.

Safety:
•  Assist in maintaining safety records and employee safety training.
•  Maintain SDS binder for winery.

Compliance:
•  Maintain winemaking records on shared winemaker database.
•  Provide monthly bulk inventories, losses, and movements for filing of TTB form 5120.17.

General Company (on occasion):
•  Provide informed, positive information to staff, clients and trade partners.
•  Take staff and clients on tour of vineyard, cellar, and winemaking activities.
•  Participate in preparation and execution of wine club and shareholder events.

Requirements:
•  Ability to lift, bend, rotate, move and carry 50 pounds.
•  Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work on high catwalks.
•  Ability to walk uphill and work on uneven surfaces, hard flooring and in hot, cold and wet environments, with typical winery chemical exposure and conditions.
•  Ability to work weekends during peak times (harvest, events).
•  Ability to drive company vehicles, clean Oregon Driver’s License required.
•  Ability to work independently (80%), as well as part of a team (20%).
•  Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as the ability to learn other related computer programs and databases.
•  Must possess excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills.
•  Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, and organized individual.
•  Must be punctual, and dedicated to ensure workflow is smooth and tasks move forward.
•  Must have a positive attitude with ability to create and foster strong relationships, and lead by example.
•  Excellent laboratory, computer and interpersonal skills.
•  Certified to operate a forklift.

Education/Work History:
•  Background education in Winemaking, Agriculture, Engineering or Sciences a plus.
•  English primary language of position, Spanish is a plus.

Reports to:
•  Winemaker
•  General Manager / Ownership

General Schedule: Days, Hours of week:
•  Starting out: Flexible part time schedule, 20 hours per week, potential to transition to full time. Flexible schedule, but ideal would be working toward two 10 hour days per week scheduled Monday-Friday
•  Harvest: mid-September-mid-November: Monday-Sunday, 6am-7pm.
•  Bottling: Varies, 6am-6pm, seasonal.
•  Events: evenings and weekends as needed.
