Posted on March 02, 2020

Richmond, Va.—Broadbent Selections, Inc. is pleased to announce that it is the exclusive U. S. importer for the wines of renowned Brunello producer, Capanna.

Capanna vineyard, owned by the Cencioni family since 1957, was founded by Giuseppe Cencioni. With the help of his sons Benito and Franco, it became one of the first vineyards established in the modern time of Brunello. Giuseppe was one of the founders of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino when it was granted DOC status in 1966. Patrizio (64 y.o.) today with 52 harvests behind it and 6 years’ experience as president of the Consorzio is currently the winemaker together with his son Amedeo (34 y.o.)

“I am excited by our new initiative to expand our importing reach into the wines of Italy;” said Bartholomew Broadbent. “I have always wanted to have a footprint in the Italian market and to represent one of the finest of all Brunello di Montalcino producers in Capanna; I couldn't be prouder. “

Amedeo and Patrizio Cencioni “As the owners of Capanna we could have not been more excited, being the first choice when it comes to Italian wines for Broadbent Selections portfolio. If we have reached all this great success with such a humble approach, it’s thanks to all the sacrifice that went into these vineyards over decades. From Giuseppe Cencioni (1st generation) Benito & Franco (2nd Generation) till both of us (3rd and 4th generation). As a family when we realized that we had been blessed with such a great microenvironment for Sangiovese, our mission became clear “to consistently produce wine of the highest finesse and great longevity”. Respecting the heritage of this land (Montalcino) that today delivers the best Sangiovese in the world. Today, and we are carrying the daily activities with the same passion as the first day into business, but with decades of experience, always striving for the very best in order to deliver the best quality wine possible”

For over three generations, the Cencioni family has taken great pride in farming their land and tending the vines. Located in the Montosoli area to the North of Montalcino, the Cencioni family is one of the few in the DOCG that produces a Brunello di Montalcino, Moscadello di Montalcino, and Sant' Antimo wines.
