SummerWood Winery Hires New Management Team

Posted on March 20, 2012

Toshimasa Kayama, CFO of E.H. Globa, Inc., is pleased to announce the hiring of a new management team for the company’s SummerWood Winery in Paso Robles, California. Wine industry veterans Shayne Kline and Kim Murphy-Rodrigues have joined the winery as General Manager and Assistant General Manager.

“We are very excited about the wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise that Shayne and Kim bring to SummerWood.” stated Kayama. “Shayne has managed winery operations throughout the Central Coast, with a full understanding of the winemaking process from vine to bottle, whereas Kim’s branding, sales and public relations experience will be instrumental in expanding our market presence as an ultra-premium brand and destination for both the winery and our inn. We are confident that this new management tandem will make an immediate impact and propel SummerWood to the next level.”

Kline’s most recent experience was as a Plant Manager for The Wine Group. Kline began his career with Franciscan Estates and has also worked with Icon Estate’s Estancia Winery. Kline has been active with the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance’s Wine Festival and AVA Committees while he served as Vice President of Operations / General Manager for Constellation’s Wild Horse brand, based in Templeton, CA from 2006 – 2011. Rodrigues’ involvement in the Central Coast wine industry is wide-ranging, with her most recent position as the V.P. Sales and Marketing for Santa Barbara-based Conway Family Wines. She previously held the position of Marketing Director for Robert Hall Winery in Paso Robles, CA. Rodrigues began her wine industry career with The Chalone Wine Group and has also worked for Wild Horse Winery. “It is inspiring to see the level of commitment of the team at SummerWood Winery and Inn. The brand is poised for growth, delivering an exceptional, quality experience to visitors, all while maintaining the standards of excellence the winery has become known for,” commented Rodrigues. “We are planning an extensive renovation of the SummerWood Inn and will also be introducing new benefits to our Private Reserve and Seasons wine club members.”

SummerWood Winery, an ultra-premium boutique winery based at the gateway to the Paso Robles appellation’s westside, features limited lots of handcrafted wines exclusive to the tasting room. The Paso Robles location includes a 36-acre estate of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon plantings and an artisan winery and tasting room, complete with a view into the barrel room where visitors can observe the winemaking process firsthand. The picturesque property features multiple picnic areas and sites for special events. Adjacent to the tasting room and winery is the nine guest room Inn, a favorite for wine enthusiasts seeking a retreat. The winery’s Rhone-wine and proprietary Bordeaux-blend “Sentio” selections have received high honors from both Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and the Wine Spectator publications. SummerWood Winery was purchased in 2001 by the Fukae family of Japan, with the winery’s name originating from the translation of Mr. Fukae’s oldest son’s first name. The winery joins the family’s U.S.A. operations which include a citrus grove in California’s San Joaquin Valley. For more information, please visit
