Niner Wine Estates Appoints Tucker Spear as Director of Sales

Posted on September 14, 2010

Niner Wine Estates has selected industry trend-setter Tucker Spear as the winery’s Director of Sales. “We are thrilled to have someone of Tucker’s caliber on board,” says proprietor Richard Niner. “His perspective and creativity will be phenomenal assets to the Niner Wine Estates family.”

“I think that all of the pieces are in place for Niner Wine Estates to be one of the top wineries in California,” says Spear, who joined the winery’s executive team the week of September 13. “Niner Wine Estates winemaker Amanda Cramer was just named Winemaker of the Year at the 2010 San Francisco International Wine Competition and the winery’s state-of-the-art facilities are unsurpassed, not to mention the quality of the wine. Those are the type of credentials that get my attention.”

During his tenure as National Sales Manager for Fantesca Estate and Winery since February, 2008, Spear helped launch winemaker Heidi Barrett’s first new project since leaving Screaming Eagle Winery and Vineyards, building a distribution network for the fledgling brand, growing direct sales and exceeding all projected goals. Previously, Mr. Spear held the position of National Sales Manager for the Western United States for Chalk Hill Estate Vineyards and Winery in Healdsburg, California, where he managed 24 distributors across 22 states.

“Both Chalk Hill and Fantesca are world-class estates,” says Spear. “I look forward to taking what I’ve learned there and applying it to Niner Wine Estates.”

When asked about his vision for the future of Niner Wine Estates, Spear reveals a commitment to smart, sustainable growth. “I can see Niner being neck-and-neck with the best wineries, certainly in Paso Robles, but also across the entire state of California. To get there, we’re going to grow in a way that will positively impact the market, which is something that Mr. Niner is wholly committed to.”

Niner Wine Estates is the visionary initiative of Richard Niner, who believes that a blend of exceptional people, vineyards, tools, and ideas is the key to creating world class wines and providing a one-of-a-kind experience in the heart of Paso Robles wine country. Since its founding in 2001, Niner Wine Estates’ roster of award-winning wines has grown to include Bordeaux, Rhone and Italian varietals, including their flagship Bordeaux blend, “Fog Catcher.” An independent, family-owned company, Niner Wine Estates is dedicated to making exceptional wines by combining the best of traditional winemaking methods as it employs cutting-edge technologies. In the state-of-the-art winery that is on track to become LEED-certified, Winemaker Amanda Cramer shepherds estate-grown fruit from Bootjack Ranch and Heart Hill Vineyard into wines that express terroir and elegance.
