Kevin Irving Joins Upchurch Vineyard As Assistant Winemaker

Posted on June 24, 2021

Benton City, WA, June 23, 2021 – Kevin Irving has joined Upchurch Vineyard as Assistant Winemaker. Previously Assistant Winemaker at Betz Winery, Irving will work directly with Chris Upchurch at Upchurch Vineyard, supporting the efforts of one of Washington State’s winemaking pioneers and a leader on Red Mountain.

Approaching the release of his 10th vintage at the winery, Upchurch continues to add talent and expand his roster of unique wines. “With our long-standing relationship with Betz Family Winery, I knew that Kevin was not only well qualified for our Assistant Winemaker position, he also had a good understanding of the quality that we are determined to achieve here at Upchurch Vineyard.  I think he will be a great addition to the team.”

Irving came to winemaking following a successful career in finance, during which he travelled the world and experienced the culture of wine and food firsthand. Upon moving to Seattle, however, he fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and began pursuing his passion for wine and winemaking. “When I got the opportunity to work with Chris Upchurch, I could not pass it up.”

“We have a very exciting future here and have never been bound by convention,” notes Upchurch. “Kevin’s energy and experience are right in line with my and Thea’s approach.”
