Acumen Napa Valley Appoints Mark Castaldi Estate Director and CFO and Diana Schweiger Sales and Marketing Director
Napa Valley, Calif.—Acumen Napa Valley is excited to announce the appointment of industry veteran Mark Castaldi to the role of estate director and CFO. With a unique dual background in finance and operations that includes key positions at some of the world’s most successful wine companies, Castaldi will oversee all areas of operations at Acumen. Featuring two organic and sustainably certified estate vineyards on Napa Valley’s acclaimed Atlas Peak, Acumen produces a small portfolio of renowned mountain-grown wines, with a focus on Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. Castaldi will be joined in his efforts by Diana Schweiger, who will guide sales and marketing for Acumen, including its DTC, wine club and hospitality programs.
A respected industry executive with more than two decades of experience, Castaldi has served as the general manager for Jackson Family Wines, vice president and general manager for Estancia Wines, COO and CFO for Schug Carneros Estate Winery, general manager for Sonoma Wine Company, and most recently, vice president of production and winemaking for Precept Wine. “I’m thrilled to be at Acumen, and excited to help tell the story of this amazing winery,” says Castaldi. “Because of its remoteness, Atlas Peak is still relatively unknown, but those who know Napa Valley, recognize that it is one of the great regions for mountain-grown wines. From honoring the uniqueness of our terroir to the intimate way we farm our estate vineyards, our goal is to share our passion for Atlas Peak with the world, while establishing Acumen as the benchmark for our region.”
As one of his first key acts as estate director, Castaldi has named Diana Schweiger Acumen’s sales and marketing director. Schweiger comes to Acumen from Fort Ross Vineyard & Winery where she was the national sales manager. Schweiger has also worked at Heublein, Paterno and Southcorp, and was the vice president of sales at her family’s Schweiger Vineyards on Spring Mountain for more than a decade. “This is an exciting time at Acumen,” says Schweiger, who views her new role as a homecoming of sorts. “I spent years working alongside my family to build a mountain winery from the ground up. What Acumen has created on Atlas Peak feels very personal. It’s driven by our estate vineyards, a love of farming, and a commitment to crafting classically structured mountain-grown wines that are recognized for their vineyard-inspired complexity and age-worthiness.”
Acumen was founded in 2012, with the goal of making the finest estate-grown wines on Atlas Peak. To achieve this goal, Acumen farms two estate vineyards—Edcora and Attelas—totaling 116 planted acres. Using grapes from these organically and sustainably certified estate vineyards, Acumen crafts a small portfolio of acclaimed mountain-grown wines, with a focus on Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.
