Michael Mestas joins Hope Family Wines as Vice President of Sales
Hope Family Wines has appointed Michael Mestas as Vice President of Sales, leading its efforts domestically. With his extensive experience and proven track record, Mestas is uniquely qualified to help advance the company’s vision and work to establish Paso as one of the world's most renowned wine regions.
"The Hope family’s history in Paso is storied,” Mestas said. "I’ve long admired the tradition and culture they have built and look
forward to becoming part of it. They have played a critical role in showcasing the exceptional natural landscape that Paso has to offer. I am eager to work with the team to achieve their ambitious goals – not just for Hope Family Wines but for the entire region.”
Mestas has a long history in the wine business and brings a wealth of knowledge in both supplier and distributor management. After receiving his BA from Colorado State, he took on a range of roles in key markets. He advanced from Divisional VP for Kendall-Jackson to a VP of Sales for RNDC to his most recent position of VP/National Sales Manager at Purple Wine Company.
“Michael has a depth of expertise that will enable him to lead a top-notch sales organization,” said Austin Hope, Owner/Winemaker of Hope Family Wines. “But equally important, he shares our passion for Paso and our drive to bring excellent wines from the region to a wider consumer base for their own discovery. His excitement about what we can achieve matches our own, and his arrival is extremely well-timed, coming as Paso enjoys newfound recognition. We see enormous opportunity ahead."
ABOUT HOPE FAMILY WINES
Rooted in a vision to grow grapes and make great wine in what was once a little-known wine region, Hope Family Wines makes a variety of offerings that reflect the unique terrain and exceptional environmental assets of Paso Robles. It is the producer of Treana, Liberty School, Troublemaker and Austin Hope wines, including the newly released premium Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles.
The Hope family arrived in Paso in 1978, embarking on a new adventure in the early days of the California wine industry. Chuck Hope, head of the family, followed his dream by planting grape vines, becoming one of the region’s largest growers of Cabernet Sauvignon by the late 1980s. He also worked to put Paso on the map – literally – playing a key role in the establishment of the Paso Robles AVA in 1983.
Chuck’s son Austin followed in his father’s footsteps, pursuing a life in the wine business and leading the family’s transition in 1995 from growing grapes to making wine. The Hopes initially produced Liberty School and Treana from their winery in Paso Robles and have created new offerings over the years – many of which have received 90+ scores from such publications as Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. For the family, what is most gratifying is continuing to work toward their vision – to make wines that reflect all that Paso has to offer and inspire people to be as excited about the region as they are.
