2016 Napa Valley Grower of the Year Announced: Larry Bettinelli of Bettinelli Vineyards

Posted on March 22, 2016

NAPA, CA (March 22, 2016) - 5th generation Napa Valley farmer Larry Bettinelli has been named as the 2016 recipient of the prestigious Napa Valley Grower of the Year award. Bettinelli will be honored for his contributions to the Napa Valley wine industry and the community on Friday, May 13 at the Napa Valley Grapegrowers' 41st Annual Dinner.

Larry Bettinelli has long been active in the preservation of Napa Valley vineyards and his dedication continues today. He currently serves on the Napa County Disease and Pest Control District Board, as Chairman of the Napa Valley Grapegrowers Industry Issues Committee, and as President of the Pope Valley Farm Center. Recently, he was a member of the Napa County Agricultural Protection Advisory Committee, which met to define policy objectives for the preservation of vineyards and agriculture.

Napa Valley would not be the same without the contributions of Mr. Bettinelli. Historically, he has served as Founding Chairman of the St. Helena High School Agriculture Establishment Committee, President of the St. Helena Future Farmers of America "Boosters" Program, President of the St. Helena Athletic Association President of the Napa County Farm Supply, and a director for the Napa County Farm Bureau.

He volunteers weekly at the Yountville Veterans Home chapel, sits on the Board of Directors for the St. Helena Choral Society (and sings regularly for memorial services across the Napa Valley), all the while running his successful vineyard management company, Bettinelli Vineyards.

Early on, Bettinelli's career included roles such as General Manager for Christian Brothers, Vineyard Manager for Beringer Vineyards, Vineyard Manager for Jaeger Vineyards, and service as a helicopter pilot for the United States Marine Corps. He was born in Petaluma, California, graduated from St. Helena High School, Class of 1966 and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Class of 1971 with a degree in Agriculture.

The Napa Valley Grapegrowers membership will gather May 13 to honor Bettinelli and celebrate 41 years as the organization responsible for the promotion and preservation of Napa Valley vineyards.

Nominations for the Grower of the Year come from the NVG membership and the recipient is chosen by a special Selection Committee made up of Past Presidents and current committee members. The award criteria are: a strong commitment to sustainable practices; recognized leadership in agricultural preservation; dedicated community focus, contributions to the Napa Valley community; and someone who actively promotes Napa's reputation for the highest quality vineyards.
