Alex Pagon, Managing Partner of Third Leaf Wines, announced that Toad Hollow Vineyards will join Third Leaf's stable of brands beginning May 1, 2020. Third Leaf Wines owns and represents such iconic brands as Mulderbosch from Stellenbosch, South Africa; Empire Estate, and Vinny from Finger Lakes, NY; Waters from Walla Walla, WA; and ENTER.Sake from Japan.


Much of the vineyard was planted in the 1950s with various sections replanted over the years. Approximately 15 acres of original head-pruned Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, grafted on St. George rootstock, have been dry-farmed for more than 75 years. Shannon Ridge plans to maintain these techniques.


Integrated Beverage Group (IBG) announced today that it has acquired Ransom Wine Co. & Distillery in Oregon's Willamette Valley in partnership with Ransom Founder, Tad Seestedt. The transaction closed on February 28 and exact terms were not made public. Zepponi and Company served as the financial advisor to Ransom Distillery and Winery.


Distant Cellars, a vineyard at 21390 Ostrom Road in Fiddletown, is listed for sale for $1.5 million. It started as an investment property for Steven Gaiser, whose previous career was in real estate, and his four sons. He purchased the 9.56-acre property, which at the time was called Frenz Vineyard and Winery, and began making improvements in 2012.


A pioneer of the Loureiro grape, the estate's wines include Ameal Loureiro, Quinta do Ameal Solo Único, Quinta do Ameal Escolha, Ameal Espumante and Ameal Colheita Special Harvest.

Actress, singer and director Zhao Wei is gradually building up a wine group in Bordeaux. Since 2011, the Chinese star has successively bought Châteaux Monlot (8 ha in AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru), Patarabet (9 ha in AOC Saint-Émilion), Senailhac (57 ha in Entre-Deux-Mers) and this year Château La Croix de la Roche (12 ha in AOC Fronsac and Bordeaux). Revealed by Laurence Lemaire, this latest acquisition was signed on March 29. Isabelle Maurin, who had owned the château since 1982, sold it due to lack of a family member willing to take over the property.


Schlatter Family Estate LLC sold the production facility and tasting room to Orsi Family Vineyards LLC on July 5, according to public records. The Schlatters are keeping the Starmont brand, which still will be made by Jeff Crawford, and 40 acres of the Stanly Ranch estate vineyard, according to the announcement of the deal. The purchase price wasn't disclosed. Proprietor Bernie Orsi, who lives in Marin County and owns hundreds of Sonoma County acres, told the Business Journal that plans for the former Starmont winery at 1451 Stanly Lane "are in the formulative stages."


The Schlatter Family, owners of the Merryvale Family of Wines, have sold its winery facility in Carneros to a private investor. The Starmont brand and 40 acres of its Napa Green Certified Stanly Ranch Estate Vineyard will remain under the ownership of the Schlatter Family and under the direction of winemaker Jeff Crawford. While Starmont finalizes a new tasting room location, all hospitality operations for Starmont will temporarily move to Merryvale Vineyards in St. Helena.


Arterra Wines Canada, Inc. (AWC) announced today they have closed a deal to acquire Culmina Family Estate Winery a premium boutique winery, founded in 2007 by Don and Elaine Triggs. Don and Elaine are planning for retirement, but will be supporting the transition over the next several months. Sara, their daughter, will be joining AWC as Sales and Marketing Director in continued support of the vision, strategy and planning for Culmina.


John and Julia Hinshaw have bought a controlling stake in Blackbird Vineyards in Napa Valley, an artisanal producer of Bordeaux influenced wines. The couple had been investors in Blackbird for several years. They also have their own vineyard in St. Helena and have been making wine for seven years.


Rémy Cointreau has announced it is to acquire the Maison de Cognac JR Brillet and part of its vineyard estate for an undisclosed sum. The French business said it had entered into exclusive negotiations with the Brillet family in relation to the deal, which it said would provide Rémy Cointreau with the opportunity to "integrate spirits with genuine development potential into its portfolio".


Located in Berlanga de Roa (Burgos), the Fournier winery, built in 1979, has grown apace with the development of the region as a whole. La Finca El Pinar is found between the towns of La Horra and Roa de Duero and is made up of 80 hectares, 50 of which are vineyards with an average age of between 30 and 70 years.


Terravant Wine Company, Santa Barbara County's largest winery announced today that it has purchased Summerland Winery. Founded in 2002, Summerland Winery is located just south of Santa Barbara in the town of Summerland and has built a reputation for producing quality estate-grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
