The Duckhorn Portfolio Inc. on Monday reported earnings of $9.02 million on net sales of $90.43 million for its fiscal quarter ending April 30. That bottom line was down 22.3% from a year before, but net revenue was up 31.6%. Quarterly net sales of $11.6 million a year ago were up 9.2% from the same fiscal third quarter in 2019.

Unemployment claims fell to 376,000 last week from 385,000 a week earlier, the Labor Department said Thursday, bringing claims to the lowest level since the pandemic hit last spring. Claims remain well above weekly filings of just over 200,000 logged before the pandemic shut down large parts of the economy last March. But they have steadily declined in recent weeks as rising vaccination rates and easing business restrictions spur economic activity.

In a June 3 letter to the Cuyama Basin Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA), the department praised its "aggressive approach" in proposing to reduce agricultural pumping in the valley by up to two-thirds by the year 2040. But the department also identified a long list of "deficiencies" in the plan and suggested "corrective actions" to address them.

Washington's Betz Family Winery announced today that it would not be releasing a 2020 vintage due to smoke taint caused by last year's wildfires. It also announced its sister winery in Oregon, SUNU Wines, would not be releasing a 2020 vintage either.

The latest iteration of wine shipping legislation, HB 210, would only allow Delawareans to receive wine shipments from out-of-state wineries, rather than from both out-of-state wine retailers and wineries. The Labor Department said May's increase in consumer inflation was the largest since August 2008. The jump followed a 4.2% rise for the year ended in April. The core-price index, which excludes the often-volatile categories of food and energy, rose 3.8% in May from a year before-the largest increase for that reading since June 1992.

Initially scheduled for Easter, the official opening of Pressoria, the Champagne Wine Centre for Sensory Interpretation, will take place on Friday 2 July in Aÿ. 10,000 visitors are expected at the centre from July to December. The hearing officer found that BROSECCO evoked Prosecco. The applicant's explanation that the opposed mark was for a UK sparkling wine, originally conceived of to celebrate Brexit, did not assist him. The hearing officer considered the opposed mark to be highly similar in terms of both sign and products. She considered that evocation was all the more likely as UK consumers would know Prosecco very well and would think of it when encountering BROSECCO.
