Sonoma Valley winery visitation was down 62 percent year on year compared to August 2019. Sonoma Valley made strides in online and phone sales, however. Napa Valley saw visitation drop 56 percent year-over-year in August, and Mendocino was down 26 percent. Paso Robles had strong July and August visitation rates but fell behind other regions in digital sales growth.

Alexander Valley Cellars announced the purchase of Wine Country Cellars and Wine Country Shipping. The deal is scheduled to close October 16, 2020. While AVC has been in business since 1985, this is their first acquisition.

Tuesday morning's report revealed more property damage. Cal Fire now says 290 Napa County houses and 321 commercial structures were destroyed. (Containment was reportedly 54 percent as of Tuesday evening).

"This has been such an extended smoke event, I don't know if we'll ever know how much got picked, left on the vine, picked then dumped, or picked then sold to bulk or distilled.
