Glass Fire was 26% contained as of Sunday evening, according to Cal Fire, with 64,900 acres burning so far and roughly 235 structures destroyed in Sonoma alone. About 36,000 people remain evacuated, Cal Fire said, meaning some tens of thousands have been able to return home.

Gallo Winery of Modesto, the largest U.S. winery, which owns numerous vineyards in Sonoma County and local wineries such as J Vineyards & Winery and MacMurray Ranch, has found "some locations experienced significant smoke exposure based on their close proximity to the fires and the prevailing winds," company spokesman Lon Gallagher said in an email.

Block has seen from grapes exposed to smoke during the LNU Complex seem to indicate much of Napa County's wine grape crop had been spared. Growers will likely have to reassess with additional testing following this week's smoke.

Harvest output in Sonoma County has been reduced with smoke tainted fruit being left on the vines. The risk to ferment and treat later can be costly to the small producer and puts makers and growers in a tough situation. Thankfully, those with the means, passion and positive outlook will still at least take a gamble.
