California is oversupplied by at least 30,000 acres of wine grapes and the state's bearing acreage needs to be 560,000 acres or less to bring the market into balance, the president of Allied Grape Growers said during a presentation at the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium. That's on top of the planted acreage already ripped out annually due to attrition. The 30,000 acres represents roughly 5 percent of the Golden State's total acreage planted in grape vines.
