Jim Caudill, the esteemed public relations and marketing pro, passed away. Caudill was with Treasury Wine Estates, Kendall Jackson Wine Estates, Brown Forman, Fetzer, and Hess. He judged the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco International, San Diego, Grand Harvest, West Coast Wine, and the International Eastern and Green wine competitions.

Mathew Bruno Wines plans to open the tasting room after renovating a century-old house off Rutherford Road/Highway 128. The Victorian building has most recently housed offices. The proposal before the Planning Commission entailed the construction of on-site parking stalls off a private road called Grape Lane, across the street from Beaulieu Vineyard, the Rutherford Grill restaurant and the 26-room Rancho Caymus Inn. No wine will be produced on site

Rochester Institute of Technology's Pollution Prevention Institute's study completed in November looks at the cost of expanding New York's bottle deposit program. New York Department of Environmental Conservation had commissioned the study. The study estimates expanding the bottle bill would increase recycling rates of wine and liquor bottles by 65%. But it could also cost New York's over 4,500 wine and liquor stores $36 million in costs

October wasn't a great month for American jobs. But a large General Motors strike has ended, and the US labor market is expected to have found its footing again. Well, a little bit, anyway. Economists surveyed by Refinitiv expect the US economy added 180,000 jobs in November. That's up from 128,000 in the prior month, during which 46,000 workers walked out of their General Motors (GM) jobs for a 40-day strike.

About 100 bushfires are raging in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW), with the most severe forming into a "mega blaze" north of Sydney. More than 2,000 firefighters are battling bushfires, which escalated in intensity late on Thursday. Footage of one blaze on the southern fringe of the city showed firefighters fleeing as flames surged forward.

To help farmers apply for grants to improve soil quality and enhance irrigation systems, UC Agriculture and Natural Resources partnered with the California Department of Food and Agriculture to put climate smart educators in 10 California communities.
