20th Anniversary ¡Salud! The Oregon Pinot Noir Auction

October 10, 2011

The 20th anniversary celebration for ¡Salud!, Oregon’s Pinot Noir auction will take place at Domaine Drouhin Oregon winery and at Portland’s Governor Hotel on November 11 and 12, 2011. Marking this milestone, forty-two of Oregon’s most respected winemakers have created small lots of unique, hand-crafted premier cuvées from the 2010 vintage, exclusively available during the two days.

“The ¡Salud! auction appeals to wine connoisseurs and collectors for the superlative wines and one-of-a-kind auction items,” says event co-chair Will Neuhauser. “It’s also significant that the program’s history spans half the lifetime of our wine industry. This demonstrates the unwavering commitment by Oregon winegrowers for the mission.”

¡Salud! is a program supported by the Oregon wine community and Tuality Healthcare to provide access to healthcare services for Oregon’s seasonal vineyard workers and their families. Since its inception, the annual fundraiser has raised over $8 million. In 2010, over 3,500 people were enrolled in the program and nearly 200 worksites, including vineyards, received services.

This year’s Legacy Award will be presented to Nancy and Dick Ponzi of Ponzi Vineyards in honor of their key role as founders of the ¡Salud! program, and their steadfast support over the decades.

“The event has become a highlight for the Oregon wine community,” says Nancy Ponzi. “We get together, enjoy each other’s wines and celebrate! Raising critical funds by donating your finest wines speaks volumes for the respect we all have for our seasonal workers. Without them, our wines would not be possible.”

“Not only do we celebrate our past, but we actively look forward to the next 20 years,” says Neuhauser. “As the need for ¡Salud! services continues to grow, we are broadening our fundraising efforts to keep pace with demand. Over the Anniversary weekend, we will introduce our Compañeros program, which will give wine lovers year-round benefits at multiple wineries and events, all while supporting the mission. It will also allow all Oregon wineries and vineyards to support ¡Salud! beyond the auction in ways that can fit their varied business models as they contribute to the future of our industry.”

2011 “Vintner’s Circle” wineries include: Adelsheim Vineyard, Elk Cove Vineyards, Raptor Ridge Winery, Amalie Robert Estate, Erath Winery, Scott Paul Wines, Antica Terra, Evening Land Vineyards, Shea Wine Cellars, ArborBrook Vineyards, The Eyrie Vineyards, Silvan Ridge, Archery Summit, Hamacher Wines, Sokol Blosser, Argyle, Ken Wright Cellars, Soléna Estate, Ayres Vineyard, King Estate Winery, Soter Vineyards, Beaux Frères, Lange Estate Winery, St. Innocent Winery, Bethel Heights Vineyard, Maysara Winery, Stoller Vineyards, Chehalem, Patricia Green Cellars, Torii Mor, Cristom Vineyards, Patton Valley Vineyard, WillaKenzie Estate, Dobbes Family Estate, Penner-Ash Wine Cellars, Willamette Valley Vineyards, Domaine Drouhin Oregon, Ponzi Vineyards, Winderlea Vineyard & Winery, Dusky Goose, R. The relationship between vintners and physicians, united in their mission to benefit this essential workforce, is unique to Oregon. No other state in the country has such an effective and far-reaching program to support the seasonal worker population. Since 1992, the program has been supported by ¡Salud!, The Oregon Pinot Noir Auction, and other generous contributions.
