Baghera Wines completed its inaugural “Burgundies, Whiskies” auction held on December 6th in Geneva, with significant results and a total sale close to CHF 3m.

The ambitious challenge formed by the trio of experts to dedicate their inaugural auction to the great wines of Burgundy - the largest, most comprehensive collection ever held in Europe around Burgundy wines - along with an inspired selection of high-end whiskies paid off. Baghera Wines succeeded in mobilizing collectors worldwide who praised this audacious selection of rare Burgundy vintages and the remarkable collection of fine Japanese whiskies.

Baghera Wines confirms its entry in the select circle of the main auction houses specialized in exceptional wines and positions itself as a key player internationally. The three French experts are planning to hold their next auction in spring 2016.

Michael Ganne, executive director of Baghera Wines: "We are very pleased at the turnout of our inaugural auction which we had designed to be both cordial and refined. The audacious catalog meant as a tribute to Burgundy and the rare collection of whiskies generously delivered as promised. Baghera Wines is now a force to be reckoned with when it comes to exceptional wines and we already have exciting projects in mind for 2016.”

The most exclusive Burgundy domains, amongst which Henri Jayer and Romanée-Conti, Coche-Dury, Leroy and Liger-Belair, were well represented and purchased by Swiss and international connoisseurs. Two of the Henri Jayer domain lots are among the top 3 results: lot #4 of Richebourg 1985 (12 bottles) was sold at 264,000 CHF and lot #1 of Richebourg 1978 (6 bottles) went at CHF 216,000.

The remarkable collection of fine whiskies also generated outstanding results, especially the Japanese bottles. The very rare Ichiro’s malt Card from Hanyu were proposed for auction for the first time ever as a full collection of 58 bottles. This extraordinary lot was sold at CHF 360,000 and represents the best result of the auction.
