Napa's Renowned Wine Merchant to Open First Tasting Room: K. LAZ Wine Collection

The Industry Insider and Tastemaker Brings Her Highly Coveted Wine Collection to the Public, Including Cult Favorites, Classics, and Rising Star Labels
October 13, 2015

For Immediate Release – Yountville, CA – K. LAZ WINE COLLECTION, a beautifully appointed Tasting Room and retail shop from former Dean & DeLuca Wine Director and industry insider Kerrin Laz, is opening in Yountville, CA. One of Napa Valley’s most beloved wine personalities and trusted consultants, Kerrin is making her collection of more than 500 wine labels – including some of the most coveted and hard-to-come-by bottles and her favorite undiscovered gems – available to the public for tastings and for purchase at the new shop. With a prime location on Washington Street in downtown Yountville, just steps away from Napa Valley hot spots like Ad Hoc by Thomas Keller, Redd by Richard Reddington, and Bardessonno Hotel & Spa, K. LAZ WINE COLLECTION is sure to become one of Napa Valley’s top wine destinations.

During her 12 years tasting, sourcing and bringing to market the best wines for Dean & DeLuca, Kerrin has established personal relationships with nearly every California winemaker worth knowing, and has garnered a reputation as a leading authority on wines in the region. Kerrin has developed a loyal following of discerning wine connoisseurs and has built collections for some of the country’s top CEOs, celebrities, athletes and other influencers. Her ability to secure limited allocations from cult labels such as Screaming Eagle, Abreu Vineyards and Dana Estate (which all have waitlists just to get on the mailing lists) makes K. LAZ the only place in Napa Valley – and possibly the country – where guests can freely taste these labels in one sitting without the high cost of purchasing full bottles.

In addition to working with Napa Valley’s most revered vintners and winemakers, Kerrin is equally in tune with what’s new and undiscovered in micro-winery labels. The result is a collection of wines typically not found under one roof, let alone in one tasting, with bottles like Kata, Keplinger and Fait-Main. “I want my guests to be able to experience wines from both the younger, more esoteric winemakers, as well the legacy cults that have paved the way for wine in Napa Valley,” says Kerrin. “It’s an honor to be able to offer this diversity of wines and build dynamic collections for my clients, no matter how big or small.”

K. LAZ is also the only place in Yountville to offer Mad Fritz Beer, made in neighboring St. Helena by vintner, winemaker and now brewmaster Nile Zacherle. The beer is served as a palate cleanser at the end of select tastings, and available to purchase by the glass. The current offering is the Kolsch-style Peacock and the Crane, and the selection will change seasonally.

Kerrin has curated three sit-down tasting experiences, available by appointment only: The Taster (with wines that average $65 per bottle), The Artisan (with wines that average $100 per bottle) and The Cult (with some of the most sought-after wines averaging $175 per bottle). Each tasting is available in a collection of six wines starting at $65 per person, or as a half flight of three wines starting at $35 per person. Along with her expert wine knowledge, Kerrin is connected to wine country’s culinary scene. She has partnered with Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery to offer a lunch tasting option where guests will be guided through a one-hour flight of four wines paired with box lunch from Bouchon ($85 per guest) – and K. LAZ will soon offer a monthly dinner tasting series in collaboration with prominent local chefs.

In addition to the retail, tasting and entertaining components, K. LAZ WINE COLLECTION offers its wines through a national subscription-based Wine Club. Members will receive six bottles of Kerrin’s favorite new wines two or four times per year. The subscriptions are available in three different price points: $300 for six wines that average $50 per bottle; $500 for six wines that average $85 per bottle; or $1000 for six wines that average $165 per bottle. Additional Wine Club member benefits include complimentary wine tastings at the shop, discounts on lunch and dinner pairings as well as bottle purchases, and Kerrin’s personal concierge services including dining reservations and winery tours throughout Napa Valley.

Designed by anm design studios, K LAZ’S 800 square foot interior is clean and bright, featuring whitewashed walls, hardwood floors and wood and leather furnishings. Anchoring the space is a rectangular tasting table with 12 seats for guests, and along one wall is a freestanding stainless steel wine display. Fresh flowers and terrariums from Napa Valley’s Evermore Flowers will be displayed from wooden shelving throughout the shop and will be available for purchase. A large white chandelier hand-crafted from seashells hangs overhead, contrasting beautifully with the rustic décor. Rich burnt orange leather club chairs and Kerrin’s own Napa Valley landscape photography (also available for purchase) add a pop of color and warmth to the black and white interior.
