Mira Winery Brings Napa Valley to Historic Charleston

Napa Valley Education Center & Tasting Room Located in Downtown Charleston to Educate Visitors and their Palates

Charleston, S.C. (July 1, 2014) – Beginning this fall, wine lovers visiting one of the nation’s food capitals will have an opportunity to sample wine from America’s grape capital, Napa Valley, California. Mira Winery, responsible for some of the highest quality wines from the region, broke ground today on a Napa Valley Education Center and Tasting Room in Charleston, South Carolina.

“Pairing Charleston, which has become a culinary destination, with Napa Valley which is one of the premier wine growing regions in the world was a no brainer,” said Mira winemaker and co-founder Gustavo Gonzalez.

The Education Center, the first of its kind, will bring the world-renowned Napa Valley, California experience to Charleston. When it opens this fall, the Center will take visitors through the winemaking process, from bud to bottle, and provide a better understanding of the geo-environment of one of the premier grape growing regions in the world - the Napa Valley.

The groundbreaking was marked by the unveiling of an 18 by 29 foot mural (photos here) on the west-facing wall of the Education Center and Tasting Room. It was recently completed by famed artist David Boatwright and has been named “Renoir Redux: Exceptional Pairings.” The mural is a Charlestonized version of Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s “Luncheon of the Boating Party” which pairs the historic painting with the likenesses of 14 members of the Charleston food scene.

“We will expose and educate locals and visitors to the unique magic of Napa Valley,” said Mira president and co-founder Jim “Bear” Dyke, Jr.

Mira was formed in 2009 as a partnership between Gonzalez and Dyke who resides in Charleston. Mira produces a limited amount of single vineyard wines from well-known Napa Valley grape-growing regions including Stags Leap, Los Carneros and Rutherford.
