Beckstoffer Purchases Mendocino and Red Hills Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyards

March 06, 2014

Napa, CA – Beckstoffer Vineyards today announced the purchase of two vineyard properties in the famed California North Coast Appellation. The larger vineyard purchase was the 190-acre Feliz Creek Vineyard, purchased from the Brutocao family in Hopland, Mendocino County. Also purchased was a 60-acre walnut orchard adjacent to Beckstoffer's well-known Crimson Ridge Vineyard in the Red Hills of Lake County. Both properties will be planted to Cabernet Sauvignon.

"We are overjoyed to find such a large 190-acre parcel of prime Cabernet Sauvignon land in Mendocino County. This size and quality of property is seldom found," said Andy Beckstoffer. "And we continue to believe that Cabernet Sauvignon and the Red Hills of Lake County offer the most exciting promise of any new wine from any area of the New World of wine, bar none. That includes Malbec from Argentina and other New World wines.

"With these two vineyard purchases our holdings will include over 1,900 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in California's North Coast. From our very beginning over 40 years ago, our vision has been that the North Coast, not only Napa, but also Mendocino and Lake Counties, offered the single best area in the world for Cabernet Sauvignon. We have not been disappointed," says Beckstoffer.

According to a survey of Wine Spectator ratings, of the top 25 red wines produced in the U.S. in the past three years, nine were produced from Beckstoffer Vineyards' fruit. These top-rated wines were a combination of quality vineyards and demanding winemakers, working together to make great wines – the greatest wines in America, in fact, according to the Wine Spectator.
