Marlborough, New Zealand (February 2021) – Kim Crawford, the number one Sauvignon Blanc and leading New Zealand wine brand in the U.S., announces a new partnership with non-profit Black Girl Ventures Foundation (BGV) – the largest pitch program for black and brown women in the world – to support entrepreneurs with innovations at the intersection of wellness, self-care and technology. Through a national crowdfunding virtual pitch competition targeting black and brown woman-identifying innovators, the BGV x Kim Crawford Wines Pitch Competition will promote those working to bring their dreams to life, while reinforcing the two brands’ shared values of empowering female trailblazers and celebrating self-confidence.

“We’re excited to partner with Kim Crawford Wines to make this pitch competition possible,” said Shelly Bell, Founder and CEO of Black Girl Ventures. “This collaboration will create access to capital for black and brown women-identifying founders, and will also connect them to community and professionals to support them on their journey. It’s an honor for us to work with a globally recognized partner like Kim Crawford Wines to help bring awareness and support to these innovative female founders.”

Leading up to the pitch event, BGV and Kim Crawford are co-sponsoring a two-part content series designed to address relevant topics for today’s entrepreneurs as they think about building their businesses. The series will be panel format and feature female entrepreneurs who have launched companies within the wine & spirits category – they will be held March 2 and March 9 and held virtually via zoom and open to the public.

For the pitch competition (held on March 11th), eight finalists will present their business concepts at the BGV x Kim Crawford Wines Pitch Competition to a panel of judges who are business experts and industry leaders. The virtual event format allows interested attendees the opportunity to tune in and listen to each pitch, submit their votes, and make donations through SheRaise, BGV’s tech platform. All participants will receive pre-seed funding for their business based on viewer donations, which will be open from March 11 through March 17. Click here for more information.

As a BGV partner, Kim Crawford has committed to being an ally for change and is investing $50,000 towards BGV’s pitch competition and the winners’ packages. Winners will also receive cash and prizes including $3,000 in Google credits, crowdsourced funds from virtual viewer donations, business coaching with BGV Founder Shelly Bell, and more. Winners will also be awarded a one-year membership to the BGV Connect Incubator, a platform that provides various educational resources, such as peer mentoring, business referrals, introductions to potential business partners, feedback sessions, coaching, workshops, and much more.

“True to the brand ethos of supporting and empowering all women, Kim Crawford Wines is proud to partner with an organization whose mission is to bring strength, guidance and resources to women of color and their entrepreneurial goals,” says Liz Harris, VP of Strategy, who will participate as one of the judges in the pitch competition. “Encouraging confidence and empowerment among women is a core pillar of Kim Crawford, and it’s exciting to be a part of an initiative that will provide visibility and access to help propel their businesses.”
