Top 25 Brands in Nielsen Channels

According to scan data by Nielsen the top-selling brands through Nielsen off-premise outlets remain domestic – Barefoot, Woodbridge, Sutter Home, Franzia and Josh. Australia’s Yellow Tail ranks eighth, while the sparkling brand La Marca, which is owned by E. & J. Gallo Winery, is No. 15.

The rankings appeared in the Wine Industry Metrics section of the October edition of the Wine Analytics Report.  

With respect to growth in dollar terms, La Marca ranks fifth after Stella Rosa, Josh, Barefoot and Bota. Sparkling brands Moet & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot rank thirteenth and sixteenth, respectively, underscoring the driving force these key sparkling brands have played in the growth of imports. A “private label” wine, the identity of which Nielsen could not release, moved into the Top 25 both in terms of total sales and sales growth versus the previous year.

Sales of domestic table and sparkling wines through Nielsen off-premise outlets topped $937 million in the four weeks ended Sept. 5, a 16% increase versus a year ago. Volume in the period gained 9% to 9.9 million cases. Sales of domestic table wines increased more than 11% to $883 million while sparkling wines gained 21% for sales totaling $55 million. Wines priced $20 and more continue to post growth in excess of 30%, the $11-$14.99 price band saw the largest gain in real dollar terms in September.
