Davis, Calif.—The Joint 71st ASEV National Conference and 45th ASEV Eastern Section Annual Meeting set to take place on June 15-18, 2020, in Portland, Oregon, has been canceled. In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) guidance for large events during the COVID-19 pandemic, the ASEV Board made this difficult decision to prioritize members’ and attendees’ safety and well-being.

The ASEV National Conference and ASEV-Eastern Section Annual Meeting serve as a platform for industry professionals and academia to disseminate the latest technical scientific information related to the winemaking and grapegrowing industry. This year’s conference invited and secured over 150 speakers from around the world, including Merit Award recipient Dr. Hildegarde Heymann of University of California, Davis; Extension Distinction Award recipient Dr. Michelle Moyer of Washington State University, Prosser; Honorary Research Lecturer Dr. Hans Schultz of Hochschule Geisenheim University in Germany; and Keynote Speaker Dr. Gavin Sacks of Cornell University, New York.  In addition to the anticipated symposium on invasive pests, the conference had scheduled research presentations through the Call for Abstracts, poster sessions, flash talks and networking receptions.

Founded in 1950 by a group of researchers and winemakers, the ASEV is dedicated to the interests of enologists, viticulturists and others in the fields of wine and grape research and production throughout the world.  For more information, visit
