Rhone Rangers Ride Into City Winery - Boston

Two-Day Celebration of American Rhone Wines, April 23-24, 2019

April 3, 2019 (Paso Robles) – Members of the Rhone Rangers will make their Boston, MA debut on April 23-24, 2019 to celebrate the 22 Rhone grape varieties that are produced by a growing number of maverick American winemakers. Under a new partnership with City Winery, the Rhone Rangers will conduct a technical seminar, wine tastings, and a multi-course winemaker dinner.

“Spring is the perfect time to introduce these wines to consumers, which include many new releases. Our celebration at City Winery will allow consumers to taste everything from the better-known Syrah and Viognier, to the up-and-coming Mourvèdre, Grenache and Roussanne, as well as the obscure grapes like Counoise and Picpoul Blanc” said Kim Murphy-Rodrigues, Executive Director of the Rhone Rangers. Consumers will have the opportunity to taste over 50 wines from fourteen Rhone Rangers producers at the walk-around trade and consumer tastings.

The two-day celebration at City Winery includes the following events:

Rhone Rangers Winemaker Dinner, hosted by City Winery. Tuesday, April 23, 7 PM.
Enjoy an exclusive five-course dinner prepared by Chef Enx Dadulas of City Winery, with wine pairings from the Rhone Rangers winemakers/proprietors including Steve Lohr (J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, Paso Robles CA), David Gates (Ridge Vineyards, Sonoma), Stacy Vogel (Miner Family Wines, Napa), Scott Saunders (Hearst Ranch Winery, Paso Robles CA) and Andrew Tow (The Withers Winery, Sonoma Coast & Sierra Foothills CA). Advance reservations are recommended for $100, and may be purchased direct from City Winery – Boston, www.citywinery.com.

Technical Seminar: “State of the Rhone Nation”, Wednesday, April 24, 12 noon – 1:30PM.
This seminar is intended for members of the wine trade and media, and will be moderated by Nick Daddona, Beverage Director and Sommelier for the Boston Urban Hospitality Group.

Wines to be tasted will include a Picpoul Blanc from Tablas Creek, Viognier from Miner Family Wines, a Rosé from Margerum Wine Co., Grenache from The Withers Winery, Red-Rhone Blend from ONX Wines, Syrah from Ridge Vineyards and Mourvèdre from Four Lanterns Winery. There are only 40 seats available, with admission exclusive to trade and media.

Trade Tasting, Wednesday, April 24 1:30PM – 4 PM. Explore American Rhone wines from appellations throughout California including El Dorado, Monterey, Napa, Paso Robles, Santa Lucia Highlands, Santa Barbara County, Sierra Foothills, and Sonoma in addition to the Columbia Valley of Washington state and a special selection of wines from Costières de Nîmes, in the southern-most appellation of the Rhône Valley of France. Consumer Walk-Around Tasting, Wednesday, April 24, 6-9 PM. This will be an intimate evening with fourteen Rhone Rangers wineries, with light appetizers to complement the wines. Tickets are $65 (VIP admission, 6PM – 9PM) or $40 (General admission, 7PM-9PM) and may be purchased online at www.citywinery.com.
