The Rhone Rangers Ride Into Washington DC!

March 12, 2019 (Paso Robles) – Members of the Rhone Rangers will make their Washington DC debut on March 26-27 to celebrate the 22 Rhone grape varieties that are produced by a growing number of maverick American winemakers. Under a new partnership with City Winery, the Rhone Rangers will conduct a technical seminar, trade tasting, walk-around consumer tasting, and a multi-course winemaker dinner.

“Spring is the perfect time to introduce these wines to consumers, which include many new releases. Our celebration at City Winery will allow consumers to taste everything from the better-known Syrah and Viognier, to the up-and-coming Mourvèdre, Grenache and Roussanne, as well as the obscure grapes like Counoise and Picpoul Blanc” said Kim Murphy-Rodrigues, Executive Director of the Rhone Rangers. Consumers will have the opportunity to taste over 60 wines from sixteen Rhone Rangers producers at the walk-around consumer tasting.

The two-day celebration at City Winery includes the following events:

Technical Seminar: “State of the Rhone Nation”, Tuesday, March 26, 12 noon – 1PM.
This seminar is intended for members of the wine trade and media, and will be moderated by Dave McIntyre, contributing wine and food writer and wine columnist for The Washington Post, and co-founder of Drink Local Wine.

Wines to be tasted will include Grenache Blanc from Halter Ranch, Viognier from Horton Vineyards, a Mourvèdre Rosé from Tercero, Cinsault from Two Shepherds, Grenache from Tablas Creek, a Red-Rhone Blend from Ridge Vineyards and Syrah from J. Trade Tasting, Tuesday, March 26 1PM – 4 PM. This event is complimentary for qualified members of the trade and media, who are invited to register by contacting To allow for direct conversation with the winery principals, tickets are limited and will be available until March 22 (or when capacity is reached).

Consumer Walk-Around Tasting, Tuesday, March 26, 6-9 PM. This will be an intimate evening with sixteen Rhone Rangers wineries, with light appetizers to complement the wines. Tickets are $85 (VIP admission, 6PM – 9PM) or $60 (General admission, 7PM-9PM) and may be purchased online at
