New York, NY (December 5, 2018) – The wines of the Savoie region of France will begin a PR and Marketing campaign in the U.S. in 2019. The coming year holds great opportunity for the wines of this region, as it was recently cited as one of the ‘Top Wine Trends for 2019’ by Bibendum, the British drinks business with specialization for on-premise programs. In this recently published list, Bibendum cites a look “beyond the classics in France”, noting that the wines of Savoie “unashamedly sing of their unique place. With over half of premium outlets [in the U.K.] featuring Savoie on their wine lists, the trend is considered well established”.

As in the U.K., the wines of Savoie are prime discoveries for both U.S. wine consumers and trade professionals alike. They offer great value and are well priced for restaurant by-the-glass programs and wine lists. Over 2,000 years of winemaking history has prepared Savoie to produce wines of distinction and remarkable character. Indeed, throughout this history there has been great focus on ways to improve site selection and viticultural practices. Today, quality wine production mirrors the development of a sophisticated gastronomic scene in Savoie, including such restaurants as Jean Sulpice in Talloires with two Michelin stars.

Planted to thin, limestone soils in the foothills of the Alps, Savoie wines have traditionally been enjoyed aprés ski, with the region’s famous cheeses. But fans of aromatic, textured white wines are increasingly drawn to Savoie. The predominant grape of the region is the white Jacquère, which is grown nowhere else in France. Other varieties include the white Altesse and the red Mondeuse. These present discovery options for consumers looking to transition from more well-known varieties. The Comité Interprofessionnel des Vins du Savoie’s 2019 program will put particular emphasis on education for U.S. trade.

About the CIVS
The Comité Interprofessionnel des Vins du Savoie is the trade council representing all of the winegrowers in the region of Savoie. It is responsible for organizing the promotion of Savoie AOPs within France and all export markets. The CIVS seeks to broaden the exposure of the wines of Savoie in the United States and other markets, and make the trade and public aware of the value and excitement of discovery these wines offer.
