Zepponi & Company Advises on Sale of Premier Willamette Valley Vineyard to The Family Coppola

by Press Release
October 22, 2018

Zepponi & Company, a leading merger and acquisition advisory firm dedicated to the global beverage alcohol industry, served as the exclusive financial advisor to the McDaniel Family on the sale of their Willamette Valley “Vista Hills” vineyard property (“Vista Hills”) and “Treehouse” Tasting Room to The Family Coppola. The Vista Hills vineyards are comprised of approximately 42 planted acres and sit near the top of Oregon’s famed Dundee Hills wine region. The acquisition gives The Family Coppola an entry into Oregon’s burgeoning Willamette Valley wine region and allows them to broaden its premium wine portfolio and geographical diversity. The Vista Hills brand and inventory were not included in the transaction and will remain independently owned by the McDaniel family.

The McDaniel family has owned and operated the Vista Hills Vineyard and Treehouse Tasting Room for over 20 years. During their stewardship of the property, they have demonstrated a strong commitment to the preservation and responsible development of the land. The 42 acres of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris vineyard are LIVE certified and produce some of the finest fruit in the Dundee Hills. The adjacent Treehouse Tasting Room offers sweeping views of the Willamette Valley. “It was with great excitement that we were approached by The Family Coppola to acquire our picturesque vineyards in the Dundee Hills. Coppola has vision, a reputation for taking care of its employees and making beautiful wines, and it’s a family company with great respect for the Willamette Valley,” says David McDaniel. “Although we love the Oregon wine industry, the opportunity to have this property grow to greater heights under the stewardship of such a well-respected company was difficult to pass up. We have no doubt that The Family Coppola will transition well into the region and build upon what we started 22 years ago.”

The acquisition diversifies The Family Coppola’s ownership of reputable vineyards, which had previously been focused in California American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) also famed for wines made from Burgundian varietals, including Russian River Valley, Anderson Valley and Santa Rita Hills. This friendly acquisition sets the stage for re-branding in early 2019 and will allow The Family Coppola to further establish its exciting new ownership within Oregon’s Willamette Valley AVA.

“This transaction in the Oregon market further exemplifies the importance of the region to the wine industry. We continue to see wine companies, domestic and International, with significant interest in the area. Oregon’s varied terroir and microclimates along with available land set the stage for growth and opportunity. It’s an exciting time in Oregon,” states Mario Zepponi, Partner of Zepponi & Company.
