Rutherford, Calif. (November 6, 2017) – The Prisoner Wine Company, known for its bold wine blends and thought-provoking design, will open a Napa Valley tasting room in the summer of 2018. The five wines in the current portfolio—The Prisoner, Blindfold, Saldo, cuttings and Thorn—will be available, as well as winery-only wines and unique visitor experiences.

Since April 2016, when Constellation Brands purchased The Prisoner Wine Company, the brand has seen double-digit growth, a result of the incredible excitement and strong loyalty consumers have for the brand. To provide consumers more of what they love, Constellation is investing in a public tasting room where visitors can experience the uniquely edgy and unexpected qualities of the brand in person. “We’re looking forward to a having a Napa Valley home for The Prisoner Wine Company, and a place to share our wines with visitors to California wine country,” says Chrissy Wittmann, director of winemaking for The Prisoner Wine Company.

Within Constellation’s newly created fine wine portfolio, TRU Estates & Vineyards, The Prisoner Wine Company will continue to play a prominent role, joined by Constellation’s other marquee Napa Valley brands, Robert Mondavi Winery and the recently acquired Schrader Cellars. “The Napa Valley has become the world-class destination it is today thanks to the incredible people who live and work here,” says Michelle Perry, Vice President of Visitor Programs for Constellation. “At a time when our resilience is challenged by the recent wildfire tragedies, The Prisoner Wine Company joins California’s greater winemaking community in contributing to a future with strong foundations and continued investment in the valley’s unique spirit for generations to come.”

The Prisoner Wine Company tasting room will open on Highway 29 in Rutherford, in the space occupied by Franciscan, which is also owned by Constellation Brands. The Franciscan tasting room closed its doors on October 30 to begin the conversion. Franciscan will build on its long tradition of innovation by introducing an Ultra-Premium tier of wines sourced from top vineyards in Napa and Monterey counties, which will be available through the wine club, online store, and in retail locations around the country. The current winemaking team will continue making Franciscan wines, led by acclaimed winemaker Janet Myers. All other Franciscan employees will remain with Constellation Brands.
