Quintessential Introduces an American "Super Tuscan" Wine
NAPA, CA – With the bold declaration on the label that this is an “American Super Tuscan Blend,” family owned-and-operated fine wine importer, marketer and sales company Quintessential is bringing a new Italian-inspired Napa Valley red wine to the trade under the Fratelli name.
According to Dennis Kreps, who co-owns Quintessential with his father, Stephen D. Kreps, “We were so impressed with the quality of this wine and how reminiscent it is of some of the finest offerings from Italy that my dad, brother and I decided to bring it in to the Fratelli portfolio. We have not found any other wine designated ‘American Super Tuscan’ on the label…it’s the perfect description for this rich and complex wine.”
Fratelli American Super Tuscan is a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, with aromas of Italian plums, spice, dark cherries, black pepper and herbs that follow through to the palate. Added notes of ripe blackberries and mocha march in, with an unctuous and silky mouthfeel.
It was made by legendary Napa Valley winemaker Robert Pepi. Alongside his father, Bob was among the first to grow Sangiovese and help popularize the Cal-Ital wine category that emerged in the 1980s. He is a master at recognizing top quality grapes and chose his sources wisely.
The majority of the Sangiovese grapes come from a highly-regarded Calistoga vineyard that has a Southeast facing with well-drained volcanic soil. The grape adds brightness to the fruit and brings a roundness to the wine, softening the “big tannins” of the Cabernet. The Cabernet grapes come from three different parts of Napa Valley. Two are in Oakville and Diamond Mountain AVAs, with the Oakville vines having a Southwest facing and alluvial soil. The Diamond Mountain vines sit on well-drained, rocky, volcanic soils facing the South. The Cabernet gives the wine its “broad shoulders” and structure.
Fratelli means “brothers” in Italian, and is a perfect name for a brand created by the father-and-sons leadership team of Quintessential – Steve Kreps, Sr., Dennis Kreps and Steve Kreps, Jr. Its label was inspired by the image on an ancient Roman coin of the famous brothers Castor and Pollux who together symbolize the idea of brotherly love.
The label features a dramatic battle scene from an 1879 engraving by British painter and illustrator, John Reinhard Weguelin. It depicts a Romain legend in which Castor and Pollux are transformed into two young knights who battled so bravely together that they spurred on the army of the Kingdom of Rome to a legendary victory at the Battle of Lake Regillus in the early 5th Century B.C.
The first vintage of Fratelli American Super Tuscan Blend is 2017, and it has a suggested retail price of $29.99. For further information, please contact Quintessential via the website: www.quintessentialwines.com, email: firstname.lastname@example.org, or phone (707) 226-8300.
