Mendocino Wine Co Debuts Slices Napa Valley Cabernet
Ukiah, Calif.—November 18, 2019, Just in time for the 2019 holiday season, Mendocino Wine Co today announced early success with the inaugural release of Slices Napa Valley Cabernet. “We chose to bring this wine to 7 key markets to start and we are thrilled by the response, including our partnership with Kroger TX and Nolan Ryan Beef Company. It is a perfect pairing,” says VP of Sales Brian Fowler. Other states included in the launch are CO, MA, MI, MO, NH, NY and a limited test with Pavilions in Southern California.
The striking branding features the classic beef primal cuts diagram and meat cleaver logo. “When you look at this wine you just think, ‘wow, this needs to be next to every meat counter, this is a no brainer’, with a screw cap, unique point of sale material and priced at $19.99, this is a winning concept,” says Chase Thornhill, owner and general manager.
Despite the prestigious pedigree, Slices Napa Valley wine does not take itself too seriously. Marketing pieces include tongue- in-cheek tag lines like, “one more reason not to go vegan” and, “the only sauce your steak needs.”
In addition to trade and consumers welcoming the wine, early industry reviews are also extremely positive. Meridith May, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of the Tasting Panel and The Somm Journal gave the wine 90 points and commented that “This red-black blood-hued wine is steak-ready. Aromas of iron and cassis sets off a mouth-watering effect. Tart notes of cranberry and blackberry are matched with cedar and chocolate. The acidity is high and rarin’ to go for that first bite of steak.”
