Welcome Ziru - The Brand New Skin-Fermented Vermentino Aged in Amphora

Posted on July 11, 2019

A wine aged in amphora that conveys the great potential of Sardinia and the skilled know-how of Antonella Corda. Welcome Ziru, the brand new Vermentino wine of Cantina Antonella Corda, a 2017-vintage wine which has been aged in clay amphoras and is available only in a limited amount of 830 bottles.

This is the fourth wine released by the winery, which has been awarded the prestigious 2019 Cantina Emergente dell'Anno (2019 Emerging Winery of the Year) by Gambero Rosso. Ziru joins the fine wine production of Antonella which includes white Vermenino and Nuragus and red Cannonau, whose 2016 vintage has been awarded Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri.

"Ziru - explains owner Antonella Corda - is an intense wine, crafted by knowledge and time. The Vermentino grapes aimed at producing Ziru have been carefully picked by hand at the end of August. The must has fermented on the skins for a whole month and then the wine has been carefully aged in clay amphoras for a whole year before finally been bottled and named Ziru."

Ziru, which has not been filtered, exudes rich flower aromas, a distinct minerality and delicate tannins smoothened by the ageing in amphora.

The name Ziru comes from the language spoken in Sardinia and refers to the traditional clay vessels used by the farmers to store oil and wine over the time in order to preserve their authentic flavours.
