Smith Story Wine Cellars Announces Spring 2016 Releases

Posted on February 16, 2016

Sonoma, CA – February 16, 2016 – Smith Story Wine Cellars, a new start-up winery specializing in vineyard driven wines announces its Spring 2016 Release, which includes the 2015 Sauvignon Blanc from Knights Valley and Sonoma Mountain, 2015 “Lakota’s View” Sémillon and the debut of their 2014 Thorn Ridge Vineyard, Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, the first West Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir crafted under consulting winemaker team Katy Wilson and Ross Cobb.

“We’re fresh off the heels of our first wine critic review by Antonio Galloni last week, the timing could not have been better as we are nearing sold-out status on all three wines he praised.” Said Ali Smith Story, Co-Owner. “When Eric and I set out to make wine for the first time in 2014, we were lucky to have started with an outstanding growing season in California. We’ve particularly been very patiently awaiting the release the 2014 Thorn Ridge Pinot Noir, it’s been our star in the cellar since we picked the grapes on August 27, 2014. Given Katy and Ross’s world renowned winemaking accolades for Pinot Noir, this first 100 case Smith Story Thorn Ridge single vineyard Pinot Noir offering is a perfect example of their winemaking craft and combined with all our vision for pinot noir.”

The Spring 2016 Release also includes the second vintage of the Smith Story Sauvignon Blanc. The 2015 Sauvignon Blanc continues to show off terroir driven white wine from two distinct small family owned vineyards in Knights Valley and Sonoma Mountain Regions. “We fell in love with these two sites because of the dirt first, particularly the Sonoma Mountain vineyard that is full of limestone, our favorite whites wines from Loire Valley carry many of the same characteristics and flavor profile as our Sauvignon Blanc, which makes us happy.” Says Eric Story, husband and Cofounder.

Also included in the Spring release, the 2015 “Lakota’s View”, Sémillon from Sonoma Mountain. “This was our surprise of 2014, both from a production stand-point and sales popularity. This wine has won over so many folks who 1) never hear of Sémillon 2) prefer red wines to white. A real door opener for our new offerings, the 2015 Sémillon is even more exquisite than we could have even imagined.
