Francis Ford Coppola Winery Releases New Pitagora Red Wine

Posted on March 13, 2015

GEYSERVILLE, Calif. (March 13, 2015) –Francis Ford Coppola Winery (FFCW) has announced the release of its new Pitagora (pronounced: Pi-TAG-ora) wine, inspired by Greek scholar, philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras. Coinciding with National Pi Day, taking place Saturday, March 14th, the release is the latest offering from the Sonoma-centric winery that specializes in full-bodied red wines, often made with grapes from the winery’s surrounding Alexander Valley vineyards.

With flavors of briary blackberries, juicy plums, and black currants, Pitagora is a robust red blend with Syrah being the backbone, and the remainder comprised of an outstanding selection of Cabernet Sauvignon from the FFCW estate, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Petite Sirah. The fruit hails from three sub-appellations of Sonoma: Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley and Knights Valley

When Francis Ford Coppola’s grandfather, Agostino, was a child growing up in the small town of Bernalda in Southern Italy, he often played among ancient Greek ruins in nearby Metaponto, where thousands of years earlier stood a school run by the legendary Greek scholar Pythagoras — Pitagora in Italian. Known today for his mathematical theorem (a2 + b2 = c2), Pythagoras was more than a mathematician; he was a renowned philosopher whose methods of understanding the world through mathematics, astronomy, and music theory influenced several generations of the Coppola family.

Pitagora’s SRP is $24 and may be purchased at participating restaurants and retailers, such as Safeway, or by visiting For more information, go to
