We received a press release from the Anderson Valley Winegrowers Association announcing their  first-ever “Anderson Valley Barrel Tasting Weekend” on July 27-28, 2013.

Inspired by the first years of the Anderson Valley Pinot Noir Festival, which was called “Roll out the Barrels,” and held at participating wineries, this new event will be open to all fans of Anderson Valley of legal drinking age. Tickets are $20 and include a logo glass and access to both Saturday and Sunday events. Sober driver tickets are complimentary.

Although Anderson Valley is known for Pinot Noir, other barrel samples will also be on offer, from aromatic whites to lush Zinfandels, which will be poured alongside current releases and library wines.

Participating wineries include: Balo Vineyards, Baxter Winery, Bink Wines, Brutocao Cellars, Edmeades, Elke Vineyards, Esterlina Vineyards, Foursight Wines, Goldeneye Winery, Greenwood Ridge Vineyards, Handley Cellars, Harmonique Wine, Knez Winery, Lazy Creek Vineyards, Lichen Estate, LuLa Cellars, Philo Ridge Vineyards, and Toulouse Vineyards.

This piece of news ties in with the "California Appellation Series 1983-2013" we have been publishing in Wine Business Monthly as Anderson Vallley will be featured in our August issue. In this series, writer/wine consultant and sommelier Christopher Sawyer follows the birth of California's unique appellations and the accomplishments made in these wine-growing regions over the past 30 years.

Past AVAs in this series include:

Paso Robles (March)

North Coast (April)

Russian River Valley (May)

Carneros (June)

Arroyo Seco/Carmel Valley (July)
