In June 2022, the federal government will start charging Canadian winemakers an excise duty at the time they bottle their wine. The duty amounts to 50 cents a bottle and it's a tax that makers of wine from 100-per-cent Canadian grapes have not had to pay since 2006, an exemption the government put in place to support local producers.
