On Friday, the Society of Beer Drinking Ladies hosted Canada's first ladies-only craft beer festival at the Evergreen Brick Works. While SOBDL's smaller monthly events are always popular, this particular one sold out just 36 hours after it was announced. With close to 20 craft-brewing companies and several food trucks on site, the visitors had plenty to keep their palates happy while playing Ping-Pong or warming up by a campfire. We asked them about their drinking habits, and why they think female-focused beer events matter.

Today BC's Wine Industry reflects on the incredible advances that wine-in-grocery has made since the Province of BC's new liquor regulations took effect one year ago, following the government's province-wide Liquor Policy Review allowing 100 per cent BC Wines (BC VQA) to be sold on grocery store shelves for the first time.
Winemakers in the lush heartland of Nova Scotia's wine industry, the Annapolis Valley, are embracing what might appear as an impossible set of conditions - cool temperatures and rocky, acidic soil - to create award-winning white and sparkling wines that are capturing international attention.
Many wineries in Oliver Osoyoos Wine Country are family operations, but the Pullens go even further, bringing in cousins and uncles to work every once in a while. The festival corporation still faces liquor license charges in relation to the death of 18-year-old Emily Bernauer. A trial date has been set for Nov. 3 and Nov. 4.

A 2013 Marselan was produced by Montakarn Estate Winery near Oliver. The winery released it last year and still has some available. There is no 2014 nor 2015 and the odds against a 2016 Marselan are very long.
The project will repair a section of pipe near Gallagher Lake that was damaged by a January rock slide to ensure the Town of Oliver, the Osoyoos Indian Band, and about 400 farmers in the Regional District of the Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) have reliable access to irrigated water.
By the end of the year, 70 supermarkets will be licensed to sell wine, and others will go on stream next year until a projected 300 stores are selling wine by 2025. I suspect that after a couple of years the system will open up completely.
Climate change is the ostensible reason why B.C. wine pioneer Anthony von Mandl (owner of 44,000-case CedarCreek Estate Winery and 250,000-case Mission Hill Family Estate) has launched CheckMate Artisanal Winery in Oliver, B.C., as the newest venture of Von Mandl Family Estates

"It is trying to ensure that no one is really going to have to raise prices. I think the government's goal here is to have no real impact on the price point for consumers. They just want avoid a situation where you could see someone trying to price gouge or using alcohol as a loss leader. It is socially irresponsible to do that you don't want to be encuraging intoxication and low price points can do that."
