Truchard Vineyards announced the appointment of Anthony Truchard II as general manager. Truchard, an attorney and youngest son of founders Tony and Jo Ann Truchard, will oversee all aspects of sales, marketing and day-to-day operations of the winery, including working alongside winemaker Sal De Ianni.
Previously sales and marketing director, Truchard led the recent expansion of Truchard Vineyards into several new markets, including Canada, the United Kingdom and China, and he projects the winery will grow 15 percent to 22,000 cases by 2015. Truchard will also support the long-standing relationships with Napa wineries that have purchased Truchard grapes, in some cases, for decades.
This year marks Truchard Vineyards’ 40th anniversary as one of the pioneering growers in Napa’s Carneros district and 25 years as a wine brand. The Truchard family will commemorate these milestones later this year during consumer and trade events.
“My parents began a legacy when they planted their first vineyard 40 years ago, and it is my goal to uphold and grow the reputation Truchard Vineyards has achieved as a premier Carneros vineyard, producing world-class wines,” said Truchard.
Truchard grew up in the wine industry, spending his childhood alongside his father in the vineyards and the cellar. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California Santa Barbara and returned to Napa after graduation to join a vineyard management company with his brother, John. Seeking to further develop his business acumen, Truchard returned to school to obtain his law degree. Upon graduating cum laude from Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, he practiced trademark law in New York before returning to Napa to join the family business.
Proprietors Tony and Jo Ann Truchard, also celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year, continue to be actively involved in the business. Tony Truchard’s main emphasis remains managing the estate’s 270 acres of vineyards. Jo Ann Truchard greets almost every visitor to the property and frequently leads guest tours and tastings.
Truchard Vineyards is located at 3234 Old Sonoma Road in Napa, and its wines are nationally distributed. The estate tasting room is open by appointment only, Monday through Saturday, and includes a tour of the winery while tasting a selection of estate wines.
