Merryvale Vineyards Appoints New Assistant Winemaker

Date: 07/31/13

Merryvale Vineyards announced the appointment of Simon Faury as assistant winemaker at its historic St. Helena winery.

With worldwide experience that includes stops at Domaine de Chevalier and Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron (Bordeaux), Bodega Michel Rolland (Mendoza), Napa Valley’s Harlan Estate and The Napa Valley Reserve, plus harvests in Australia and Italy, Faury brings a wealth of knowledge well beyond the degrees he has earned in viticulture and oenology from the University of Turin and University of Bordeaux in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

Faury will be responsible for daily operations at Merryvale’s St. Helena winery and will work closely with senior winemaker Sean Foster and consulting winemaker Craig Williams on the brand’s Bordeaux varietals, in addition to collaborating with the entire production team on all Merryvale wines. With an emphasis in terroir studies as part of Faury’s masters program, he will also join forces with Merryvale viticulturist Michael Costley and the vineyard management team to oversee operations at their hillside Estate Vineyard located off Conn Valley Road in the Saint Helena AVA.

“I am very happy to join a team that has produced some of the finest wines from Napa Valley. In the short time that I have been here, I can see that our Estate Vineyard exhibits some of the best terroir in the valley, and the potential for Cabernet there is limitless,” said Faury.

“We are very excited to have Simon join our team. His accumulated experience along with his strong scientific background and sensory approach will be instrumental in expanding our Cabernet program as we focus on the Bordeaux varietals for the Merryvale brand,” said Sean Foster, senior winemaker for Merryvale Vineyards.
