Quintessential Hires B.J. Valencia For Top Sales Position
As it starts its second decade of importing and selling fine, family-owned wines from around the world, Quintessential has announced that B.J. Valencia is joining Quintessential as vice president, sales for the Eastern U.S. – a newly-created position for theNapa-based company.
Valencia has more than 25 years in the wine and spirits business, beginning as a salesperson for a wholesaler in the Washington, D.C. area, where he was raised. During 19 years, he rose through the sales ranks at Kobrand Corporation, leaving in 2009 as chain manager for the North Central Division. For the past four years, he has been director of sales in 14 Midwestern states and Eastern Canada for California’s Merryvale Vineyards.
At Quintessential, Valencia will be responsible for managing the company’s sales personnel and brokers, interfacing with distributor management and creating sales plans and projections in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, D.C., West Virginia and Wisconsin.
He attended the University of Maryland, and graduated from Brock University in Ontario, Canada with a degree in business administration and psychology. In addition to D.C., he has lived in New York, Chicago and vicinity for more than 20 years and, most recently, in the Detroit area with his wife and teenage daughter.
