Don Sebastiani & Sons Hires New Director of Winemaking Rob McNeill

Date: 04/30/13

Don Sebastiani & Sons, a family-owned wine company based in Sonoma, California, announced the hiring of Rob McNeill as director of winemaking.

"Rob will be a great addition to our winemaking team as he brings a broad range of experience covering many facets of the wine industry," said Donny Sebastiani, president and chief executive officer of Don & Sons. "We are very lucky to have landed a dynamic and passionate talent like Rob. His depth of expertise in crafting still and sparkling wines will help us continue to improve our Appellation Wines and create award-winning wines that consumers love to enjoy."

Before joining Don Sebastiani & Sons, McNeill worked at Mumm Napa for nearly two decades. Under his leadership, Mumm Napa became the first winery in the U.S. to achieve four international certifications: ISO 9001 for efficiency and quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management, OHSAS 18001 for health and safety and ISO 22000 for food safety. These management systems enable a culture of consistency and continuous improvement.

This is a newly-created position for the Sonoma Valley-based company. McNeill will be based at Don & Sons' Steelbird Cellars facility in the Napa Valley. There he will oversee a talented team that is led by winemakers Greg Kitchens and Gloria Mercado-Martin. McNeill's singular focus will be to make world class wines.

Throughout his career, McNeill has been responsible for producing a large number of wines, many of which have received high quality ratings in Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast and Wine & Spirits. In 2010 Brut Prestige received a Top 100 from the Wine Spectator while DVX has consistently received 90+ ratings from these publications.

McNeill earned a Bachelor of Science degree in fermentation science from University of California at Davis. He has served as a member of a number of different organizations including the American Society of Enology and Viticulture, Napa Valley Vintners, Atlas Peak Appellation Association and Mendocino Grape Growers Associations.
